Nurture – A home-based peer support program for families with new babies
Parenting Village honors the energy required to bring a child into the world, and we seek to nurture the parents who undertake this vital responsibility. Nurture is a Parenting Village program that helps create positive experiences for families with a new baby in their homes. We know that the time after a baby’s birth can be intense for families. Mothers in particular may feel exhausted, drained, or isolated during this period. They may be faced with recovering from the physical difficulty of birth, hormonal changes, and lack of sleep, or other challenges during those early weeks and months.
Nurture volunteers visit families in their homes and offer a steady and supportive presence through the joys and challenges of the first weeks and months of a baby’s life.
Connection – Activities and meet-ups for families
Parenting Village offers regular social gatherings and opportunities to make lasting connections with other families, as well as the chance to learn about and experience the many family related activities that our area has to offer. Recent and upcoming gatherings include Dads + Kids hikes, family potlucks, and meet-ups at family-friendly locations.
Collaboration – Community-wide events and services
Parenting Village is dedicated to working with existing resources to offer innovative programming that pulls from our community’s collective genius. Our flagship Collaboration event is our annual Summer Bash. The Summer Bash is a family festival where parents and children gather together and partake in hands-on activities and classes while they learn about the many wonderful family related businesses and services that our community has to offer. Our last Summer Bash hosted over 50 local organizations and businesses that worked alongside Parenting Village to create a fun-filled event offering joy, laughter, insight, and crucial information.
Parenting Village is also currently forming a Postpartum Wellness Coalition. The goal of this multi-agency initiative is to increase community awareness and identification of Prenatal and Postpartum Mood Disorders, and to enhance service coordination, outreach, and education related to Postpartum Depression, Anxiety, and other related Mood Disorders.
